Featuring a dual-core ARM processor architecture with expanded memory capabilities, the updated Linux operating system and DSView™ management software, provides the Avocent® ACS8000 optimal performance, security, reliability for a complete out-of-band management solution.

Overview

Ongoing market disruption has challenged IT teams at hyperscale, colocation, enterprise and edge sites. IT and network managers, and their staff need secure, authorized and remote access to IT infrastructures to perform their jobs, monitor system health, and address issues and alerts before they become problematic.

That mission has become increasingly important as organizations adopt digital-first business models, implementing hybrid cloud infrastructures and moving workloads closer to customer and user demand. Downtime not only negatively impacts your workforce’s productivity, but can also bring operations to a standstill, resulting in customer and revenue loss.

Whether they’re working from home or on-site, your data centre and network teams need to access serial-based devices in the same building; at large sites on the other side of the world; or across edge sites. You need to scale time and talent to manage all of these devices, without adding extra staff or compromising employee safety. You also need to increase responsiveness, from automatically deploying and configuring devices to providing proactive management, troubleshooting and issue resolution. By so doing, you can support growing data centre and edge site demand, while ensuring continuity of vital services.

Security is also a significant concern. Cyberattacks are growing, putting pressure on your IT teams to maintain systems effectively, identify and address security gaps, and respond to incidents proactively. You want to strengthen security by providing access-based controls that limit responsibilities to job functions and protecting devices from unauthorized access

What is an Advanced Serial Console Server?

Manage Your Growing IT Infrastructure with Growing Precision and Ease

Ongoing market disruption has accelerated organization’s digital transformation efforts. In addition, the drive to remote work will continue to increase pressure on IT infrastructure. As a data centre or network manager, they will play an invaluable role in enabling organizations’ ongoing growth and in ensuring the business continuity of digital operations. To scale critical processes, IT teams need centralized IT management capabilities, better visibility and processes that offer redundant or alternative access to vital infrastructures. The Avocent ACS 8000 Serial Console Server meets these needs by providing inbound and out-of-band (OOB) management capabilities; Ethernet, cellular and analog failover capabilities; automated processes; and security. The Avocent ACS 8000 Seral Console Server empowers IT teams and supports organisations with fast, flexible processes that can be easily adapted and scaled to meet the latest business and technology requirements.

Here’s how the Avocent® ACS 8000 Serial Console Server enhances your IT management capabilities.

Applications

Zero Touch Provisioning

The zero touch provisioning feature is an extension of the console server's BootP configuration retrieval and is a method for deploying many console servers into an environment. All that is required is a valid DHCP server and TFTP server to use zero-touch provisioning. Configure the DHCP servers to instruct newly introduced console servers to download a template configuration and upgrade/downgrade firmware. Setting up the DHCP/TFTP/configuration files only take a few minutes and will potentially save hours of configuration time for console servers subsequently added to your network.

There are several advantages of using zero touch provisioning and include the following:

External Sensors

The Avocent ACS8000 serial console server now provides the ability to attach an external sensor to the new Sensor port located at the front of the appliance. See below a list of supported sensors.

In addition, the Avocent ACS8000 also supports a new Digital In port providing the ability to monitor and alert on motion, door, smoke or leak sensors.
